Sandans Joe Camba and Ek Ear will be co-leading with Trung Pham and nidan Andrae Miller during the jiyu kumite seminar. We hope all dojos encourage your junior white and brown belts to participate. We would also like to invite black belts to help officiate during the tournament as this Workshop allows senior members an opportunity to practice refereeing and corner judging during each of the matches. Godan Tom Muzila and David Lechuga will be heading the referee practice. We ask all black belts to review the “SKA Tournament Rules Booklet” prior to the event (booklet available @ http://ska.org/news/wp-content/uploads/tournament/web_tournament_rules.pdf). We hope all black belts will attend to support their juniors in this jiyu kumite/tournament workshop.
.
PLEASE RSVP ALL FIGHTERS AND REFEREES.
Tournament spaces will be limited to 16 slots per division (women’s, white belt, brown belt divisions), but the Jiyu Kumite Seminar is open to all.
. - This Workshop is an introductory level training on jiyu kumite (“free sparring or matching”) for white belts, brown belts, & new members of SKA. The Jiyu Kumite Seminar will cover concepts of kumite drills & footwork, fighting strategies, and applying kumite techniques with an opponent. Following the seminar will be the Long Beach Tournament. This mini tournament will be a mock competition designed for participants to experience “free sparring”, and apply their kumite techniques and fight abilities with other competitors in a safe and friendly exchange environment. The seminar will be led by top competitor black belts sandan Trung Pham & nidan Andrae Miller. The tournament will be conducted by SKA black belts going over tournament rules, and concepts of officiating and refereeing. We welcome all SKA members to participate in this workshop and please invite friends and family to come and observe. Portions of the Proceeds will go towards SOD Funding Project.
